Retail Interior Design | MoMA Design Store Tokyo | Omotesando | Tokyo | Gluckman Mayner Architects
This 4500 square-foot retail space is MoMA's first expansion to another country. Working with the 'swirl' concept of the base building (designed by MVRDV), the store's orientation shifts together with the building's non-orthogonal space. Located on the third floor, the store consists of two zones framed by flanking steel walls; one for tall fixtures and the other a field of small fixtures mounted on tracks, allowing flexibility in layout. The cashier is formed through a bold gesture of bent steel framing plasterboard to create a volume housing a storage area and a wedding gifts salon.........more
Retail Interior Design | Armani Fifth Avenue | New York | Massimiliano Fuksas
The building that incorporates Armani/5th Avenue holds a very important place in the history of architecture because its faÁade is one of the first examples of the ìInternational Styleî. When one is dealing with such a cultural milestone, one must always bear in mind that the exterior is totally New York, while the interior should have its own identity. A reflection of the flair and aesthetic values that define the Giorgio Armani style. The grand staircase is the focal point, an exciting sculptural feature which connects all the different levels that accommodate the Armani universe range by range. Innovative in both layout and content, Armani/5th Avenue is the first concept store in which all the Armani products are presented in a single space, where the same design has been adopted throughout: the subtle colours and restrained shapes emphasise the value of the product...........more
Bank Interior Design | BMCE Branches | Morocco | Foster + Partners
A simple functional arrangement divides the rectangular footprint equally between the banking hall and support areas. The modular grid places landscaped pools, with planting in recessed stone rills, around the exterior of the building, inverting the form of the Moroccan riad, with its central courtyard. The branches are designed to be energy efficient, combining modern technology with centuries-old methods of passive climate control. One example is the use of ‘earth-tube’ cooling, in which fresh air is drawn into a pipe that encircles the structure below ground and is chilled naturally before being released into the building’s ventilation system.........more
Retail Interior Design | Selfridges Oxford Street | London | FAT
The floor is organised around three main areas. The first is Europe's longest denim wall. Here a canopy, formed by a seemingly chaotic explosion of timber struts frames the space. Both raw and expressive, the canopy plays against a background of sharp graphic legibility formed by the denim shelves. Visual languages of direct pragmatism and more glamorous theatricality are combined to explore the dialogues of workwear and luxury that run through contemporary denim design..........more
